ENGINEERING NOTES

1. An Improved Four Stroke Petrol Engine.

This document contains an illustration of one possible construction of a novel type of 4 stroke petrol engine. There are a variety of enhancements and variants to the basic format. The reader is invited to determine the method of operation of the engine from the information given. This design is not to be mistaken for the "Price" compound engine. The "Merritt" design is also visually similar, but there are important differences in operation. The design is not to be mistaken for a purely "Variable Compression Engine", although the construction can be arranged to incorporate variable compression without difficulty and with some advantages over existing designs.

Explanation of method of operation

2. A Heat Engine or Heat Pump.

This document gives a description of the method of operation of a novel type of heat engine or pump. Illustrations of two possible constructions are also given. One construction implements the Carnot cycle, while an alternative variant implements the Stirling cycle. This construction has important advantages over existing configurations. There are a variety of enhancements and variants which can implement other thermodynamic cycles. Applications for the engine or heat pump are extensive.
